You’ve made your name in New Zealand. Now you want to go global.
A good international SEO strategy helps you reach coveted overseas markets, as well as sustaining your local market. Every region has its own language and search trends, so we help you find relevant keywords for your international pages, depending on your target countries.
Search Republic can guide you through the technical side of optimising your international landing pages for organic search. We help advise best practices for URL structure, redirections, and assigning hreflang tags to make your target audience extremely clear to search engines.
After discussing your business goals, we’ll help create you a technical international SEO strategy for content mapping and technical fixes. Then, we’ll update your web pages with the most relevant and helpful local content, perfectly in line with your preferred content tone.
Talk with us to see how we can bring your brand to an international audience.
We start with an in-depth audit of your website, triaging any immediate indexing issues in a priority list of factors that may be impacting your website visibility, loading speed, and general appearance in search – such as missing meta tags or broken links.
If you’re merging multiple region-specific sites into a global one, we advise on how to maintain as much existing traffic possible with a clean redirect mapping plan. We can also advise on good choices for country-specific domains (ccTLD), subdomains with generic top-level domains (gTLD), and subdirectories.
Even when using the same language, different countries have cultural nuances. During the keyword research phase, we review search trends to pinpoint popular local phrasing that aligns with your brand tone, so you can provide the most appealing and useful answers for your target audience.
Make a great first impression in search. We audit your existing titles and meta descriptions and optimise them with your unique brand voice, highly-searched keywords, and the compelling benefits of your products and services.
We write unique, thoughtful, helpful content for each of your international markets. Where duplication or common content is necessary, we can advise on selecting canonical pages to ensure the correct URLs are served in search. For all high-value sales pages, we optimise your text with local keywords and FAQs.
As well as auditing header and footer menu linking and internal connections between closely related collections, products, and services, we review your external links from relevant external sites in your industry – advising opportunities to gain external links from reputable local directories and online publications.

International SEO targets multiple countries, while multilingual SEO targets multiple languages. International SEO can focus on different countries with the same language (e.g. New Zealand English and United States English). In contrast, multilingual can focus on the same country but with different languages (e.g. Canadian English and Canadian French).
International SEO is worth pursuing if global expansion is on your radar. You can assess market potential looking at existing international website visitors via analytics tools, and your projected profitability from existing sales and/or trends from competitors.
Consider language and country targeting if you have instances of very similar pages that targeted to different regions; e.g. three pages selling the same product to New Zealand, Australia, and Japan with unique currencies but the same descriptions. Implementing hreflang tags on pages with multiple language versions helps to indicate your intended language and geo-targeting to search engines.
Duplicated content without clear geo-targeting may result in the ‘wrong’ pages appearing in search, or multiple pages showing with low visibility in the search results. A tailored approach to content for each region may be best in some cases. Or, we can help advise on where to implement canonical pages and geo-targeting.
Research keywords using tools such as Google Ads Keyword Planner to identify search terms with the best relevance to your services and sufficient search volume in your target countries to warrant targeting. Also, you can review top-ranking competitors for local phrasing and region-specific interests you might have missed.
